What is the Florida Healthy Start program?
Florida Healthy Start is a program that’s all about helping moms, babies, and families stay healthy and thrive. Whether you’re pregnant or have a little one at home, the program connects you with free services like health checkups, parenting tips, breastfeeding help, and more.
Who can use Healthy Start services?
If you’re pregnant or have a child under age three, you can get help from Healthy Start! It doesn’t matter how much money you make or your immigration status—everyone is welcome.
What kinds of help does Healthy Start offer?
There’s a lot of support available! Healthy Start can help you with:
- Pregnancy care to keep you and your baby healthy.
- Parenting tips and classes to help you feel confident.
- Breastfeeding support if you’re nursing your baby.
- In-home visits from supportive experts.
- Connections to resources like housing, food, or medical care.
How do I join Healthy Start?
It’s super easy! Your doctor or nurse can help you fill out a quick, free questionnaire (called a risk screen) during one of your pregnancy checkups. If you just had a baby, the hospital can help you fill it out before you go home. Or you can call your local Healthy Start Coalition directly. CLICK HERE TO CONTACT US!
Do I have to pay for any of this?
Nope, it’s all completely free! Healthy Start is here to help, no strings attached.
What’s the Healthy Start Risk Screen?
It’s a short and easy form that helps spot any health or life challenges that might pop up during your pregnancy or after your baby is born. It’s a way to make sure you get the support you need, right when you need it.
Do I have to take the risk screen?
Not at all! It’s your choice, but it’s a great way to see what services might be helpful for you and your family.
What if I missed the screening?
No problem! You can still get help. Just reach out to your local Healthy Start Coalition, and they’ll guide you through how to join.
How long can I use Healthy Start services?
Healthy Start sticks with you throughout your pregnancy and until your little one turns three. If you need extra help beyond that, they’ll connect you to the right resources.
What makes Healthy Start special?
Healthy Start is all about you and your family. They take the time to create a plan that works for your unique situation and connect you to local resources that really make a difference. It’s a program that’s caring, personal, and focused on building strong families.
Can dads or family members get involved?
Absolutely! Healthy Start knows it takes a village to raise a child, so dads, grandparents, and other family members are encouraged to join in on parenting classes, home visits, and other activities. We also offer a separate fatherhood program called Team Dad, which is specifically for Dads!
What about mental health support?
We’ve got you covered! Healthy Start can connect you with counselors, support groups, or resources to help with postpartum depression, stress, or just navigating life with a new baby.
